Each year, Colonel Light Gardens enters the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) in Science, Mathematics and English. More than 500,000 students from Years 3-12 throughout Australia participate. The cost is $8.80 per competition and we invite your child to consider sitting for one or all of them. The papers are completed at school, in school hours in terms 2 and 3. It is a helpful way of building your child’s self-esteem, broadening their horizons and giving them extra academic experience. For further information, please contact Louisa Guest via the front office. Entry forms can be downloaded from the link below or from the Front Office.
Please note that entry fees are not refundable and late entries are not accepted by the school after the cut-off date of 27th March 2014. All issues regarding late entries and refunds must be taken up with ICAS directly.
CLG After Hours Soccer – Urgent, Coach Needed
We have a large number of younger children wanting to play school soccer in the Under 8 age group. We have enough players to fill 2 teams but at this stage no-one to coach the 2nd team. We urgently need a parent (or two) to take on the coaching role. Games are played Saturday mornings and practice held after school. Other teams have operated successfully with a couple of parents sharing the load, 1 attending training and the other games etc. We will not be able to field both teams without additional parent support. This will result in players having to be either rostered on to games or spend a lot of time on the bench, neither option encourages children to want to keep playing. All you need is a willingness to give it a go, coaching training is available and you will find it a very rewarding experience to give the kids an opportunity to play their chosen sport.
Contact our school soccer coordinator, Olivia (0433 177 793), if you can assist in giving the kids an opportunity to play!
Don’t forget to vote tomorrow! CLG’s Langley Hall is a polling venue – so pop down, vote and grab a sausage in bread and a can of soft drink from the stall the After Hours Sport Committee have organised.
Teachers are really looking forward to the opportunity for new learning on our Pupil Free Day on Tuesday, March 11th following the Adelaide Cup Public Holiday. The school will be closed to students and staff will be offsite working with international educator and author Lee Crockett. Mr Crockett is the author of ‘The Digital Generation’, ‘Teaching for Tomorrow’ and ‘More than Just Literacy’ and will lead us in looking at the abilities our students will need for their future and ways to raise our school achievement standards through challenging students to improve their information fluency and solution fluency.
School Footy Needs You!
We have the largest number of students wanting to play school football for many years. We need your help. We need someone to coach the second Year 2/3 team. At this year level children are just starting to learn the skills. It may be possible to work in with the other 2/3 coach for joint training sessions. Without parental support we will only be able to field one of the teams so please think about helping out. Contact our school football coordinator, Kendall Zimmerman (0400009314), if you can assist in giving the kids an opportunity to play!
